What a Christmas!

I just got back into town after spending the holidays with my family. As always I had a great time and I wish I was still there.

Santa spoiled me again this year. I got the new droid phone! As well as a gift certificate to one of my favorite LYS, a ceramic pie pan, several kitchen tools, a silicon rolling pin with height guides, the Norah Gaughan Knitting Nature book, a couple of gift cards to Target and Walmart, a pie making class at Art of the Pie, a couple of sudoku books, my kitchenaid mixer (which arrived earlier), 2 lbs of Dunkin Donuts coffee and a whole host of other goodies that my mind is blanking on.

Santa also spoiled Mom and Dad as well. Mom got an iPod Nano and Dad got a Wii. After spending most, if not all of Christmas eve and Christmas day trashing talking my Dad, he kicked my butt at Wii bowling. I’ll be honest, I let him win I also showed Mom how to use her iPod and I’m pretty sure she’ll be the iPod queen within the next few days. She’ll be downloading podcasts, albums and books in no time!

And Kink and Jimbo were also spoiled by their Aunt Marilyn. She and her kitties bought them some new toys. As soon as I put them down, that was it. Now I only seem them as they are flying around the house.

As for the New Year, Well I hope it brings lots of love, hope, happiness and health to me and all my friends and family.

I hate being sick

I felt a cold coming on but I thought I had pushed it out of my system. But last night, that cold bitch slapped me. And today I’m still feeling it. I think today and tomorrow might be the worst of it. At least that’s what I’m hoping. Worse case, I spend the weekend sleeping, coughing, blowing my nose, watching bad tv and knitting. I suppose it could be worse, I could as throwing up to that list.

Tonight I did a little bit of finishing up some small knitting things I did yesterday. I did them both with my HSKS swap yarn! The little sweater was made with the yarn from my swap partner Lavender Ollivander. And the heart was made with yarn from my Random Act of Kindess package that Ophelia Ballycastle sent me!

And here’s a picture of my Christmas tree (see I really did get one).

After looking at this photo, it looks like I don’t have a whole lot of ornaments on the tree. The ornaments are those smaller round ornaments, so they seem to look a little like the lights on the tree.

And on that note, I’m going to drink a bunch of nyquil and try and sleep tonight.

Oh! Before I forget, tomorrow night is the luminaria down on Lake Washington and the Argosy Christmas boat. Hopefully I’m feeling good enough to go down there for a few minutes and take some pictures!

Away in a manger, with LBJ and a garden gnome?

As I was driving to work today I noticed one of the houses that normally has a huge Christmas display had outdone themselves this year. They have the prerequisite large inflatables and the santa and his sleigh and the manager scene. But upon closer inspection of the manger scene (normally this is a busy street, but just my luck we had to stop because someone was turning) I noticed that Mary, Joseph, Little Baby Jesus (aka LBJ) and the 3 Wisemen were also joined by a garden gnome, a goose and I believe was the little dutch boy (or perhaps one half of those kissing couples that were so popular back in the day). It looked like, in the middle of the night, the rest of the garden ornaments, were looking for shelter. I know technically the little dutch boy and the garden gnome weren’t at the first Christmas (the goose might have been there and made into dinner shortly after witnessing the miracle in the manger) but maybe this is the owner’s way of making a statement about racism and peace without being to in your face about it. I mean, if the little dutch boy, a garden gnome and a goose can all be there for the birth of Christ and not start a world war, then why can’t the neighborhood get it together and stop shooting people (did I mention the house is in the Central District, which isn’t the safest neighborhood in the Seattle). Unfortunately the lawn jockey stayed away from the manger to make a statement.

I just found out that I won the Gryffindor House award for best kit! This was such a fun swap and I hope to be able to sign up for it next term when I will finally win a dang quidditch game!

And a sidenote: I just wanted to let everyone know that I’m ok. I got a lot emails about my not being able to get a Christmas tree this year. Thank you for all your concern. I really appreciate it. And it makes me realize what great friends and family I have. I got a tree this evening. It was $20. All of which goes to the Dunshee House. I’ll try and post a picture of the tree tomorrow. Right now, Jimbo is nibbling on some of the lower branches (I’m sure I’ll see those branches later…) and Kink is drinking out of the tree stand.

Oh and for a feel good story… I was watching HBO and their Real Sports show came on. I’m not that big of a sports fan that I would typically watch this show, but they had a story on that just made me feel like not all teenagers are bullies, gangbangers, and spoiled. It’s sometimes had to see that when you live in a big city where there is serious poverty and on the other end of the spectrum, massive amounts of money.

It's Christmas time!

How do I know? Well the house in the neighborhood that loves Christmas, has every centimeter of their property covered in Christmas lights and decorations! We all know that I love that kind of stuff. I think secretly my dream is to win the megamillions and buy a nice house that sits on some serious land and cover every inch of it in Christmas lights and decorations at Christmas time. Sorry mom and dad. I have to say that my love of the tacky Christmas might be your fault. I think it all goes back to our family’s favorite Christmas decoration… disco santa.

Not a whole lot going on

I’ve been working on a special project. You can check it out here. If you have any comments, concerns, questions or want to help, let me know. I’m new to this whole thing so I can use all the help I can get. Other than that, all my xmas shopping and present making is done. Now I’m working on a quick knit thing for me. It’s going pretty fast. it would be great if I could have it done by the time I get off the plane in Albany. Since things are slow at work, I was able to take tomorrow off so that I could clean the house, do some laundry, pack my suitcase, and spend some time with the kitties. And then it’s off to NY! I’m looking forward to going home. This year has been filled with a lot of ups and downs. And it’s always good to spend the end of the year with the people I care for the most.

I also can’t wait until New Years day. I’ll be doing a 5k race with an optional “dip” in Lake Washington. And I think I might opt for the dip part. I think it’ll be a great way to start the New Year – with a group of friends, both old and new, and then shocking the system with a dip in the lake. It’s way better than how I spent last New Years day – in a hit and run accident. So anyway you look at it, anything is a better start to the New Year than an accident.
